Hymns for the Witching Hour by Kuya James.
In June 2023, Brown’s Mart premiered "HYMNS FOR THE WITCHING HOUR," a dynamic and engaging collaborative dance theatre work co-directed by Kuya James and Kino McHugh.
It explored the spirits that visit us at night, drawing inspiration from childhood stories, religious and cultural influences, and family dynamics. The production featured live music by James, live graphics with Filipino cultural imagery, and powerful choreography.
The show aimed to create a profound connection between the audience and the performers, touching on themes of love and cultural identity. James, a key figure in the Filipino Australian community, made this a transformative experience for both his community and the wider audience, contributing to the changing landscape of contemporary Australian theatre.
