National Aboriginal Art Gallery Local Support

Aaron Blacker Transcript

I'm Aaron Blacker I'm from the Central Australian Rugby Football League and the Central Australian Rugby Union.

So with the upcoming construction of the National Aboriginal Art Gallery we're really looking forward to not only it bringing more people to town, but the actual locals, the ones that can benefit from it every single day that's what I'm looking forward to.

It's all well and good and lots of people keep talking about what it's going to bring to Alice Springs. I'm looking forward to what people in Alice Springs can enjoy and what it can deliver to us.

I'm really looking forward to the opportunity that Rugby League and Rugby Union are going to get out of this.

What it means is that we're going to have to move from Anzac Oval, but what that does mean though, is the opportunity for our sport Rugby League and Rugby Union to grow.

At the moment we're having to turn people away because we simply can't fit people on the field.

You know we're training through to 9, 10 o'clock at night, and it's freezing cold, mums and dads don't want their kids to do that.

We want to get two fields and everyone in training. We've got a thousand kids running around on the field.

We need to build our sport and this is a perfect opportunity to do it.

The more I looked into it, the more I understood about the project, the better I realised that we're not losing our green space.  We're going to have a bigger green space. We're going to have more car parking, and most of what people are concerned about is misinformation.

Alice Springs is a fantastic place and it's all about community and commitment and what we can give back to what we take out of the town, and the best way to do that is to be informed in your decisions.

Look at what the proposal is, and don't listen, and don't propagate a little bit more of that misunderstanding.

Be informed, make the decisions based on what you know, and if you don't know ask the question.

Rather than come up with a reason why not to do something, let's come up with a reason why to do something, and let's really get behind it and let's ask for something that we can all enjoy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Alice Springs let's not miss it, let's do everything we can to support it.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Alice Springs let's not make, let's not miss it, let's do everything we can to support it.
